What I learned about Immigration and would like to share with others

Time Needed: ~ 1 hour

NCSS Standards-

 

·         Locate, access, organize, and apply information about an issue of public concern from multiple points of view.

·         explain actions citizens can take to influence public policy decisions.

 

MMSD Standards-

  • Describe and demonstrate selected forms of civic responsibility.
  • Be a cooperative member of a school.
 

 

Essential Questions:

What did I learn about immigration?

What do I know now that I want other to know about immigration?

 

Materials Needed:

  • Crayons, color pencils, pencils, markers
  • White sheets of paper
  • KWL chart
 

 

Objectives:

  • SWBAT  create awareness among their school on immigration
  • SWBAT take a role as an active citizen in our community by expanding awareness
 

 

 

Lesson Context:

This will be the final lesson.  Students will participate in being active citizens by drawing something they learned about immigration and share with peers.  I will hang up final products in the hallway for other students to see.

 

Lesson Opening:

  • Go through the KWL chart
 

Procedures:

·         Create message; Have students chose something they learned throughout the unit and would like for other children to know. 

·         They should then write a few sentences along with a drawing on a white sheet of paper about what they learned and think others should know on immigration.

 

 

Closing:

  • Students will share with the class their final products and messages.

Formal-

·         Final art work created. Does it contain a message on immigration?
